PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
𝐋𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐤𝐚, 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟖𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑 – The Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) is a professional body whose mandate is to safeguard the welfare of doctors in Zambia to optimize the delivery of quality health care in the country. Following the recent revelations published by various media houses concerning a couple said to be medical doctors who are alleged to have jointly murdered a minor reported to have been working as a maid for the said couple, the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia membership would like to convey their condolences to the family of the deceased for their loss. The Resident Doctors Association of Zambia would also like to state that the two individuals who are under police custody are in fact not medical doctors, contrary to what is being reported by various media houses. The two have never been inducted into the Medical Fraternity by the Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) and do not appear in any Health Profession Council of Zambia (HPCZ) professional register as confirmed by HPCZ. The said report has the potential to bring the name of our profession into disrepute and further increase the verbal and physical abuse our members are being subjected to because of some of these erroneous reports. The Association urges all journalists and media houses to report facts and not hearsay and to always strive to verify their stories before publication. RDAZ is always available to respond to issues requiring verification on our members and many other issues related to healthcare in Zambia.
